Attractions of the Oakland Area
The natural beauty of the Oakland area draws lovers of nature and outdoor recreationalists to the lush Umpqua National Forest with camping, waterfalls, excellent fishing, hiking, and pristine lakes. Located in Douglas County, known as the " Land of the Umpqua" with the Umpqua River with its many valleys. A great place for fishing, hiking, biking, & camping year round.
And for those who want to see an Oregon town as it was a hundred or so years back, Oakland is one of the best preserved collections of classic 19th Century brick buildings in the state of Oregon, and well deserves its status on the National & State Registers of Historical Places.

Umpqua Valley Wineries
The Umpqua Valley is becoming well-known for its fine wines. A tour of the Umpqua Valley Wineries takes you through some of the prettiest countryside - river and forests interspersed with meadows of horses and cows, & sheep leading you to the various vineyards and their tasting rooms.
Oakland is proud to be home to several wineries that are part of the Umpqua Valley Winery Association. Enjoy a friendly and relaxed day to taste the various vintages and take tours.

Oakland's Dining
Oakland offers several eateries / restaurants for our populace and guests.
Tolly's has an original old-fashioned marble-topped counter and soda fountain and ice cream parlor - the good old days relived faithfully within its antique filled walls. It has a gift shop, candy counter, full service bar and an elegant restaurant.
Oakland Deli and Wine is a classic delicatessen & coffee shop. It enjoys a faithful following of locals who enjoy the casual atmosphere, good lunches & you can taste / sample & purchase local wines here.
The famous Historic Oakland Tavern offers great sandwiches, beer, wine, spirits, pool, State Lotto and the place to experience the true ambience of Historic Oakland, Oregon.
The Lamplighter Inn & Restaurant offers a variety of great food along with liquor, beer, wine & State Lotto machines.
Or enjoy a picnic in one of Oakland's parks where you will find picnic facilities for an afternoon or evening in the park.

Oakland Museum
After being amazed at the 1890's buildings in Oakland's downtown district, visit the Oakland Museum for more surprises about the unique little town and its history. Rooms full of furniture typcal of many early Oakland homes, a bank exhibit, post office, general store and more. There is a clothing display, toys, photographs, tools and stories of Oakland's history. Established in 1969.
Open 7 days a week 12:30-3:30 (closed holidays)
The Oakland Museum is operated by volunteers and publicly supported with donations.
There is no admission charge. Don't miss this delightful step back in time.

Oakland Area Outdoor Recreation
The North Fork of the Umpqua River is a popular hiking area with one of Oregon's most dense concentration of waterfalls. Tokatee Falls is one of them, with a 120 ft drop - well worth the stop. There are hotsprings nearby, a semi-rugged hike overlooking the river.
Known as one of Oregon's premier fly fishing streams, the North Fork of the Umpqua provides a scenic and rewarding experience for fishermen, with its unique summer run of native steelhead. You can fish on your own or hire a guide service. Stop by Stearns Hardware to obtain a hunting or fishing permit for Oregon.
Oakland sits west of both the Umpqua and Willamette National Forests and many come to the area to enjoy water sports at Diamond Lake and marvel at the spectacular deep-blue waters of Crater Lake. There are numerous streams and lakes in the area and camping available throughout our majestic forests.
Bicyclists will enjoy the scenic touring along our quiet roads, winding through green meadows with cows, horses and sheep munching lazily, over covered bridges and gurgling streams, and gentle, shaded countryside. You will even see an occasional wild turkey.

Antiques in Oakland Oregon
There are antiques surrounding you at every step through our quaint downtown area, immersing you in the old-time boom days of yesteryear. Some shops have been in continuous operation since the late 1800s, and our many antique stores give you the opportunity to take some wonderful treasures home with you.
The best place to see a high concentration of nostalgia and life in the good old days, is the Oakland Museum, where you can ponder and enjoy various exhibits that capture the every day Oakland of the 1800s.
Or take the walking Tour of Homes for a pleasant afternoon stroll, enjoying the workmanship of well-kept antiquity amidst landscaped yards. Stop by the Oakland Museum and pick up the free walking tour map.
