The North Fork of the Umpqua River is a popular hiking area with one of Oregon's most dense concentration of waterfalls. Tokatee Falls is one of them, with a 120 ft drop - well worth the stop. There are hotsprings nearby which requires a semi-rugged hike overlooking the river.
Known as one of Oregon's premier fly fishing streams, the North Fork of the Umpqua provides a scenic and rewarding experience for fishermen, with its unique summer run of native steelhead. You can fish on your own or hire a guide service. View the video of a fishing trip @ Big K Guest Ranch. Also visit their Facebook page here for more excitement.
Stop by Stearns Hardware to obtain a hunting or fishing license on your way.
Oakland sits west of both the Umpqua and Willamette National Forests and many come to the area to enjoy water sports at Diamond Lake and marvel at the spectacular deep-blue waters of Crater Lake. There are numerous streams and lakes in the area and camping available throughout our majestic forests.
Bicyclists will enjoy the scenic touring along our quiet roads, winding through green meadows with cows, horses and sheep munching lazily, over covered bridges and gurgling streams, and gentle, shaded countryside. You will even see an occasional wild turkey.
